Alice In Chains Reveal If They Were ‘Jealous’ Of Eddie Vedder & Kurt Cobain

Alice In Chains drummer Sean Kinney discussed Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain’s huge level of fame in the 90’s in a new Washington Post article. Vedder was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1993 during the apex of Grunge’s popularity.

“For Ed to find himself on the cover of Time magazine, where they’re trying to make him the voice of a generation, and all Kurt’s going through, it was kind of a conflicting time. [I was] kind of relieved that that didn’t happen to us. There was no jealousy or anything. I just kind of felt for them.”

In 1995, Layne Staley discussed the last time he saw Kurt Cobain.

“Kurt and I weren’t the closest of friends, but we ran in to each other at shows and hung out. I knew him well enough to be devastated by his death. I just don’t understand it at all. The last time I saw him, he gave me a ride from QFC on Broadway to a friend’s house. The whole way there, which was about a fifteen minute drive, he talked about his daughter. For such a quiet person, he was so excited about having a child. He really loved that little girl. Then about a month later I saw on the news that he was dead.”
