Loudwire are reporting that Alice In Chains paid tribute to Layne Staley and Mike Starr during a recent performance in Boston, and that they also announced a new single is coming this week.

“We like to take a minute most every night to think about Layne and Mike as well,” Jerry Cantrell said before strumming the familiar opening notes to the Staley penned classic “Nutshell.”

Despite there being a new Alice in Chains album on the horizon for release this fall, they didn’t preview any new tracks. Cantrell and DuVall jokingly bantered about rumors of “a record out pretty soon” before the final encore of “Rooster.” The guitarist even announced a new song would be coming out this week, though no further details have been made public at this point. AIC have posted what appears to be a teaser on Twitter though, which you can view below.

Alice In Chains are expected to release their sixth studio album this fall. The band’s last album was 2013’s The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.
