Axl Rose insulted for years by rude fans
Axl Rose, who is in good shape right now as he continues to tour with Guns N’ Roses, has faced insults from mean and rude ‘fans’ over the years about his weight and appearance.
In a recent appearance on Appetite for Distortion, Soulfly frontman and former Sepultura guitarist Max Cavalera came to the defence of Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose, specifically taking issue with those who criticize the singer’s appearance.
“My wife showed me the other day there was some people sh*t talking Axl and it’s like, ‘Come on, man. F*ck you all. It’s such bullsh*t. Leave the guy alone,’” Calavera said, before explaining that he experienced something similar.
“Because I had a little bit of that, you know. Like, you gain a couple pounds and people got to talk sh*t about your weight. What is this? Are we like Vogue models? [Or] are we like rock and rollers?”
He continued, noting that people shouldn’t be judged on appearances, but rather on their music.
“It was never about the f*cking weight. Who gives a f*ck what somebody weights, you know? It’s about the music, man. It’s about what they play. It’s about what you like in the music, you know? So I heard that and I was totally, like, again I was like, ‘F*ck this sh*t. F*ck, this is just cowards.’ I never got to meet Axl, but I’m sure we hit it off pretty good.”
The musician went on to reflect on aging, saying that he takes pride in getting older.
“It happens to everybody. All of us, you know, most of us gonna get old… You’re lucky [to get old],” Cavalera said. “I f*cking wear that with pride. Like the white hair and the stitches. I take pride on that. Took a long time to get that, you know.”
Axl Rose is proving haters wrong
Despite being in noticeably good shape during recent Guns N’ Roses tours, Axl Rose has still been the target of haters online. Social media has amplified the criticism, with some users posting unflattering photos and memes . This has continued even as Rose has delivered marathon-length sets at over 3 hours and incredible vocals at major festivals and stadiums.
Supporters, however, have defended him, pointing out that at 62 years old, he continues to front one of the biggest rock bands in the world at an elite level. For many longtime fans, the negative remarks show how bad internet troll culture has gotten, and doesn’t reflect on Axl Rose’s legendary rock god status.
