Allison Hagendorf recently asked Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman Billy Corgan about Courtney Love’s progress on the new music she has been teasing since last year.
Billy Corgan responds
In response, Corgan opened up on Love’s musical vision and past collaborations with him.
“Well, I’ve offered to help a couple of times, but I think she’s fallen with some people in England that she likes,” he shared. “I’ve heard some stuff. I don’t have any particular opinion, good or bad, because I think what she’s after is something I don’t totally understand.”
“I think Courtney is certainly — she doesn’t lack a perspective. That’s never been the issue. But because of her raw musical talent, she’s still relying on other people to sort of translate. I like to think that, in that thing, I’ve been the best partner in translating her vision into something that an average fan on the street would understand.”
Corgan and Love had briefly dated during her band Hole’s early years. They later reunited to write the albums ‘Celebrity Skin’ (1998) and ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ (2010).
The duo’s two’s musical collaboration ended decades ago but the Smashing Pumpkins vocalist said their relationship remains ‘very good.’
“I was just texting with her, like, two days ago,” he told Hagendorf. “We’ll talk every once in a while, maybe every six to eight weeks. We’ll just have kind of a — She’s a furious texter. Just put it that way. It’s like a text storm, you know, and it could be about anything. I mean, we were talking about — it was Rothschild’s one second and then what’s in the news next. It’s all good.”
Hole hasn’t gotten back together since their breakup in 2012, though Courtney Love teased a reunion in recent years. She last mentioned the possibility during a guest appearance at The Coverups’ London show in February.
It’s currently unclear whether the upcoming new music will be for the band or a solo effort.
