On Thursday, Corgan dropped a video to X, from Brasília—where the Smashing Pumpkins played Friday evening. In the video, Corgan addressed the horrific accident.

“First of all, thank you to our local responders—our first responders—for being there for my family in our hour of need. “Chloe’s mom, Jenny—my mother-in-law—is OK. She’s banged up, but she looks like she’s going to be OK.”

Police believe the crash was an accident, but Corgan said the investigation continues.

“So many people reached out to us yesterday, Chloe and I, and we’re super grateful,” Corgan said.

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan’s wife Chloe had announced that a car accident occurred outside the Corgans’ Madame ZuZu’s Teahouse. She revealed that a car drove over the curb and into Madame Zuzu’s, crashing through the window and sadly injuring one person, her mother, Jenny. She was spending the day and lunching with Chloe’s son Augustus.

“This afternoon at Madame Zuzu’s, a car (in circumstances which remain under investigation) drove over the curb and into Madame Zuzu’s, crashing through the window and sadly injuring one person—my mother, Jenny; who was spending the day and lunching with my son Augustus.

Thankfully, he was able to leap out of the way and was not injured. Our family is grateful for the swift assistance of the Highland Park and Deerfield first responders. To this, Madame Zuzu’s will be closed until further notice and we’ll provide updates as we move forward. Thank you for your support and understanding.”

Corgan’s mother-in-law Jenny is out of the hospital and his son Augustus is safe. Chloe recently posted a video on Instagram, discussing the accident.

Billy Corgan had also posted the photo of the car crash that endangered his family. The car had crashed into Madame ZuZu’s, at 1876 First St. in Highland Park, around 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The red Mini Cooper was seen being towed away from the building after crashing through one of the front windows.

The couple has thanked the Highland Park and Deerfield first responders for their help and Chloe noted that the shop will be closed until further notice, with an update coming soon. Madame Zuzu’s, which serves a variety of teas and vegan items had opened in its current location in September 2020.

Billy Corgan originally opened the tea shop in the Ravinia neighborhood of Chicago back in 2012. After closing it down in 2018, the rocker and Chloe re-opened the store at its current location in September 2020. In addition to selling tea, the shop offers a largely vegan menu of food items.

The crash took place just a couple days before the Smashing Pumpkins embarked on a November tour of Latin America, and just a few days after Corgan announced a brief December solo tour of Australia.

Corgan is set to return Down Under this December for the “Good Things Festival” performances in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and will also perform solo headlining concerts in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

Corgan will be backed by Australian indie rock band The Delta Riggs at the concerts. While the headlining shows are scheduled to take place on December 1st, 3rd and 4th, the festival run will happen between December 6th and December 8th.

Cogan is set to play some of his greatest hits as well as some classics from The Smashing Pumpkins catalog.
