Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has paid tribute to legendary photographer and writer Art Shay in a new Instagram post.

“The man on the left, Art Shay (@artshayarchive) passed to the good Lord this morning, seen here in a self-made portrait with his wife, Florence; who left us too about 6 years ago. Both were my friends, and I take solace that they are together once more. Art was a brilliant photographer with a keen eye for injustice in the world. A man whose talents combined the magic moments spoken of by Cartier-Bressons with the heat of a beat reporter on Weegee’s watch. I can assure you, there will never be another like him.”

Corgan was asked about his creative process in a new Creative Independent interview.

“I support this topic. I can say for somebody who’s been interviewed thousands of times, as an artist I talk about creative process the least, which is really strange to me because the reason I’m sitting there is because of the creative process. Instead, it always ends up being about T-shirts and indie politics and pretty teeth and it’s just so strange to me because at some point it’s like, “Doesn’t somebody want to know what’s in this fucking car engine?” Most people really don’t. I’m not saying they don’t care, it’s just not their point of entry.”
