Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan took a shot at longtime rivals Collective Soul in a recent Q&A. Corgan accused Collective Soul of ripping off The Smashing Pumpkins in the 90’s, leading to Ed Roland and company hitting back with “Smashing Young Man.”

The Smashing Pumpkins covered “Shine” at a show in 2010 briefly, before Billy Corgan stopped it and said, “I f**king hate that song. What a f**king ripoff of my band.” Below are highlights from recent Billy Corgan social media Q&A’s.

Did you make peace with Collective Soul?

Fuck Collective Soul. Now and always.

How would you suggest coping with going through traumatic psychosis that has alienated you?

Beyond my pay grade. But I wish anyone suffering from mental issues the best of God’s grace.

Do you or have you ever cared what others think of you? How to overcome negativity spewed at you?

I used to assume criticism (when I was younger) was to correct, not destroy. I learned quick that was a false impression.

Any guitars that you own that you wouldn’t tour with?

Yes, generally. The Tonight, Tonight 335, the cheap 1979 guitar, the Bat Strat. But I may bring them out for a specific tour.

With the over saturation of overproduced pop music, when is the next musical revolution?

A return to the integrity of specific genres. So, since alt rock can no longer cross over to mainstream, it will return to the audiences that wants it to kill pop dead.
