Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan took a shot at Sonic Youth singer Kim Gordon when a fan recently asked him about covering one of Sonic Youth’s songs.

Corgan also discussed the new Smashing Pumpkins album CYR, and the band’s upcoming MACHINA reissue. He discussed his character on the new album, and if the two records released 20 years apart are related in anyway. Alternative Nation transcribed the Q&A.

Would you ever cover Sonic Youth’s The Diamond Sea? Your voice and magic + that song = (heart emoji)

“Love that song but cannot stand Kim Gordon so no.”

Is the character post Zero/post Glass named in the upcoming CYR album?

“He’s already named. No one has picked up on it yet, that’s all.”

I’m digging the new material, feels like it’s picking up from the Machina era..am I right?

“Umm, no. But appreciate you enjoying it.”

Any chance Machina deluxe will come with a live show from that era?

“I don’t think so.”

What are archive releases going to be? Live shows, demos, b-sides, all of them?

“All of the above.”
