Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan recently was upset by a fan question during an Instagram fan Q&A. A fan asked Corgan about how he went back to his 90’s Grunge era voice on the new Smashing Pumpkins song “Marchin’ On”. The track appears on the band’s new album Shiny and Oh So Bright Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.

Interesting how your voice is different on Marchin’ On. Old school Billy. On purpose?

“Rude question, but I will take it on. Friends, I can sing like any of the old Billy’s. Siamese Billy, Zeitgeist Billy, Adore BC, you name it. My voice is completely intact. So fuck off with these questions.”

What do you make of the reception to Shiny? Seems extremely positive..do you care about that?

“Through 30+ years response to our music and my songs has been more negative than positive. Should we have stopped? So the answer is no we don’t care. It is easier to be liked but legend comes from risk, not from reward.”

How do you react to reviews of Shiny that criticize it for not being Siamese Dream part 2?

“That’s every poor review for 20 years.”

Congrats on the new LP! General feelings about the record and reception so far?

“Very pleased by the positivity. I personally like the music a lot, and I look forward to writing more that you’ll feel even more strongly about, god willing.”
