In July of this year, the original members of Black Sabbath will reunite for one last show in their hometown of Birmingham, UK. Not only is this event going to be the final time Black Sabbath ever take the stage together, but it is also being billed as Ozzy Osbourne’s last ever performance.
While everyone involved in the event seems to be excited for the show, guitarist Tony Iommi recently admitted in an interview with The Guardian that originally he wasn’t so sure he wanted to participate in it.
“I’m the one that said, ‘I don’t know if we should do it,’ because we did a farewell tour and I didn’t want to get into that thing like all the other bands are doing, saying it’s the last tour and then reappearing again,” he said.
Iommi went on to explain that he changed his mind when he realized that the proceeds of the concert – dubbed “Back to the Beginning” – will go to charity.
“But I’ve been convinced because we’re doing it for a reason,” Iommi stated. “No one’s getting paid or anything.”
Currently, funds raised by the concert are set to go to the charity organizations Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.
