Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and popular actor Brad Pitt were spotted at the Dodgers/Padres game. However, fans were left upset after the broadcast ignored Flea’s presence while listing all celebrities attending the game.
Many fans took to Twitter/X to call out the lack of recognition. “Hey MLBONFOX on behalf of everyone from LA, and every bass player, ignoring Flea while you name check pretty boy is offensive as f*ck and you should be ashamed,” user jimstewartson tweeted.
Meanwhile, Flea was just happy the Dodgers won the game, tweeting out: “I am deeply contented about the dodgers whupping the padres. Its so good. Happy me.”
Flea, who is known for his electrifying slap bass technique and funky rhythms, has long been celebrated as one of the world’s top bass players. But the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist revealed that Beatles legend Paul McCartney captivates him the most.
Following his performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games closing ceremony, Flea declared McCartney as the “greatest rock bass player.”
In an interview with Team Coco, he praised McCartney’s ability to create lyrical and melodic bass lines that stand out in rock.
“I think Paul’s the greatest rock bass player. He’s just great. There are so many great players, but Paul’s bass playing is so lyrical and melodic—it’s just beautiful,” he remarked.
Red Hot Chili Peppers member is particularly fascinated by McCartney’s unconventional approach to bass. In contrast to many rock bands where bass lines typically serve as the foundation, McCartney would add the bass after the melody was established, creating a counter melody rather than just a rhythmic backbone. He cited Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as an example of this unique technique.
His admiration for McCartney underscores his appreciation for creativity and innovation in music. Despite his own iconic status, Flea continues to find inspiration in the artistry of others, particularly in those who challenge the norms of their instruments.
