Martina McBride, Flo Rida Set DC America 250 Shows

Martina McBride, Flo Rida and Vanilla Ice are among the artists announced for a major National Mall event marking the United States’ 250th birthday, with organisers billing the programme as a large-scale public celebration in Washington, D.C.

The 16-day Great American State Fair will begin on June 25 and is expected to draw participants from across the country, The Hill reported in unveiling the newly confirmed performer lineup.

According to the announcement, the bill also includes C+C Music Factory, rocker Bret Michaels, funk group the Commodores, rapper Young MC, pop duo Milli Vanilli and R&B act Morris Day and the Time, with additional artists set to be announced later.

Freedom 250 CEO Mr. Keith Krach said the Great American State Fair aims to bring together people from “all 56 states and territories” to celebrate national traditions, innovation, music, military heritage, freedom and entrepreneurship as part of the broader America 250 programme.

The event adds another high-profile entertainment component to the lead-up to the semiquincentennial, as organisers position the National Mall gathering as a unifying showcase in the nation’s capital ahead of Independence Day festivities.
