Britney Spears recently took to her Instagram account and posted a throwback picture where she was spotted with the Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2001.

In the pictures, the Hit Me Baby One More Time singer, 41, was wearing a black lace sheer mini-dress and strappy black heels to match. She was sitting in a fold-up chair clutching a microphone that carried the event’s branding and sat next to the Rolling Stones frontman. Mick perched on his identical chair next to the pop star and wore a black suit over the top of an orange shiny shirt with the same colour socks to match.

Her caption read:

“I had no idea who I was talking to 😜😜😜 !!!

Britney and Mick met at the annual award show that was held at the Metropolitan Opera House at the time in New York City on September 6, 2001 – just five days before 9/11 tragically rocked the city. The award show saw the pop sensation take to the stage to perform a rendition of her smash hit I’m a Slave 4 U and saw a plethora of animals such as snakes and a caged tiger feature in the iconic moment.

Ahead of the show, Mick had told Kurt Loder that he was a fan of the star and made a note of how she previously covered his band’s hit I Can’t Get No Satisfaction in 2000.

He said: ‘She did it very well,’ when asked what he thought about her take on the classic song following which Britney thanked him and revealed it meant a lot to hear him appreciate her efforts.

They were both taking part in a joint segment to promote albums they had coming out at the time – Britney was due to hit shelves on October 31, 2001, while Mick’s Goddess in the Doorway album was coming out a month later.
