Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi recently grabbed the headlines after he apparently mocked the fans of popular singer Britney Spears and their efforts to end her conservatorship, which was overturned in 2021.
Zachary Levi receives backlash
Posting to his Instagram story on Feb. 25, Levi shared a satirical news article from Razzle Dangerously with the headline, “Millions Who Hashtagged ‘Free Britney’ Starting to Change Their Opinions on Conservatorships.”

The report seemingly downplays Spears’ case, which saw the pop legend freed from her conservatorship in November 2021 after over 13 years. The involuntary conservatorship was set up by Spears’ father Jamie in 2008 after a series of mental health episodes she went through during the 2000s.
Many fans have responded to Levi’s posts on both Twitter and Instagram to voice their anger over the actor’s apparent downplaying of Spears’ issues. This is Levi’s second controversial social media post in recent weeks after he came under fire for comments criticizing Pfizer ahead of Fury of the Gods‘ world premiere. However, the actor’s comments did not specify whether he was referring to the Pfizer vaccine or the pharmaceutical company itself.
Meanwhile, There have been recent reports stating that Fury of the Gods has undergone major reshoots and scene additions at the request of DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn, though director David F. Sandberg denied these rumors.
Fury of the Gods is projected to be the lowest-grossing debut in the history of the DC Extended Universe. Amidst the ongoing DC Universe shakeup, the performance of Fury of the Gods could determine the future of Levi’s eponymous superhero. Fury of the Gods sees Levi and Asher Angel reprise their respective roles as Billy Batson/Shazam. The film features a star-studded cast, including Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler as the Daughters of Atlas.
