After expressing his dislike for Donald Trump last month during his shows in Manchester, England, Bruce Springsteen is again speaking out against the President.
During his concert in Berlin, Germany on Wednesday (June 11th) at Olympiastadion – a venue built for the 1936 Olympic Games that still bears scars from World War II and contains N*zi era relics – Springsteen doubled down on his criticism of Trump’s administration, calling it “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous.”
“Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise your voices, stand with us against authoritarianism, and let freedom reign,” he said to the tens of thousands of fans in attendance.
Similar to previous shows, Springsteen’s speeches – which included calling out the recent immigration raids, the freezing of funds for universities, and measles outbreaks – came in between songs.
Despite his current frustrations, Springsteen remained hopeful about the future of the United States. “The America that I’ve sung to you about for the past 50 years of my life is real. And regardless of its many faults, it’s a great country with great people. And we will survive this moment.”
Still, he ended his speech with a warning: “The America that I love, the America that I’ve sung to you about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.”
