We recently uncovered a post the Tukwila Police Department made after Chris Cornell’s death last year, revealing that he jammed with Alice In Chains in the 90’s. It was previously unknown that Cornell and AIC had jammed in the 90’s, outside of “Right Turn” off of Sap.

“Like many this morning, we are saddened to hear the news that local, national, and international music icon Chris Cornell has passed away. Many of us are music fans that grew up during the 90’s grunge era. As such, we wanted to share a story about Cornell from an encounter that we had with him back in the 90’s.

In the early 90’s during the heyday of grunge, several of our officers responded to a noise complaint of loud music coming from a house in a residential neighborhood late at night.

Upon arrival, officers contacted several individuals that were having a jam session in the basement of the residence. As luck would have it, those present were members of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains who were jamming together including Chris Cornell. Cornell and the others graciously invited the officers inside to watch them play a song or two and politely agreed to keep the noise down. Afterward, he and other members of both bands spoke to the officers (who were fans) for a period of time.

It is one of those calls and moments in time so memorable that it still is talked about over 20 years later around the station.”
