Chris Cornell’s widow Vicky recently discussed his abuse of the prescription drug Ativan being misunderstood in the medical examiner’s toxicology report since it wasn’t at overdose levels.

Vicky wrote to a fan on Instagram:

“Thank you – it’s not their fault the medical examiner posted something that was able to be twisted. And because levels aren’t overdose levels there is no understanding….My husband should be here and whatever the cause of his death that’s what I set out to fight for.

It would be a lot easier for me to say depression – there is so much stigma around addiction. Depression is looked at forgiving its disease not choice. While addiction means choice, addiction means junkie, addiction is ‘them vs. us.’ I will not be bullied into silence – this is a disease and it must come out of the shadows – if it was my husband would be here.”

Last month, Vicky Cornell announced the launch of Addiction Resource Center (ARC) For Chris, an online resource for individuals and families struggling with addiction, as well as the Addiction Resource Line (ARL), a hotline that connects those in need with clinicians and peer recovery support advocates.

She also recently posted on Instagram, “Athens- April 7, 2017 thank you @annavissiofficial for keeping our family and Chris in your thoughts during this very difficult time. Thinking back to how much fun we had – feels like yesterday….. My husband loved you and we love you! #familyiseverything Thank you for your kind words: ‘Hard to believe it’s a year since Chris was here in Athens and joining me on stage. Aside from one of the greatest voices and poets of all time he was a family man , who took on our Greek culture and love. How proud he was when he spoke of his Greek family and his wife @vickycornell! Greece loves you and misses you @chriscornellofficial we think of your family this very difficult month’ #keepthepromiseforchriscornell #noonesingslikeyouanymore.”
