The Hole frontwoman Courtney Love recently said that a certain Nirvana lyric was inspired by Kim Gordon.
On Wednesday, April 1, Courtney Love appeared on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan podcast where she reminisced about what the Sonic Youth artist was like in the ’90s.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman agreed with Love and claimed he was a fan and “came in to pay my respects and I was treated so rudely” by Gordon.
Love then claimed that a certain Nirvana lyric from “Heart-Shaped Box” was inspired by Gordon.
“[Kim] was really horrible in the ’90s. I remember in Holland I was hanging out with you, and they were so mean,” Love, 61, told Billy Corgan of Sonic Youth.
“You know the Kurt lyric, ‘Forever in debt to your priceless advice?’ That’s about Kim,” Love told Corgan.
She continued, “That’s literally about Kim and there’s like — he was so mad at her. Kurt’s whole thing was, believe it or not he hid his light well, you know this, under a bushel for bleach because one, Seattle, which he wasn’t from, two, Kim Gordon, back to pernicious indie politics.”
Love claimed that she was “scarred” by Gordon.
“[I was] so scarred that I had to write her a letter kissing her ass,” she claimed. “You don’t go for the husband, the cool husband. You go for the wife.”
