While many fans were hoping Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters would be playing a stadium show with the reunited original Van Halen lineup right around now after David Lee Roth strongly hinted at shows last year, it appears we will have to settle for Dave Grohl joining the Bird and the Bee for a Van Halen covers show on August 2nd in Los Angeles. The Bird and the Bee will release Masters Volume 2: A Tribute to Van Halen on August 2nd, and they’re going on tour to support it.

“When I want to listen to hard-rock music there’s still nothing that hits me like” Van Halen does, The Bird and the Bee’s Greg Kurstin said in a press release. “Every time I hear them it takes me back to when I first found them on the radio, and it felt so dangerous to me — like they were from a whole other world. It would be so great if people who would never usually listen to Van Halen heard this record, and then ended up falling in love with them too.”

Inara George said the song “Diamond Dave” described her crush on David Lee Roth, and they’re reworking the song for the new covers record. “I remember being 10 years old and seeing their videos and feeling both excited and totally terrified — I responded to them in this very visceral way,” George said in a release.
