Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl discussed Trent Reznor not being pleased with his performance on a Nine Inch Nails album in a new track by track series for Medicine At Midnight. Alternative Nation transcribed his comments.

“That happened to me once when I was playing drums on a NIN record. Trent was like, ‘Here’s the song.’ He sent me this demo. I was doing what the drums on the demo did. So I would record a drum track, and Trent would say, ‘Okay, on this one make sure you hit both crashes on the one.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, cool.’ (Hums drumming)

‘Cool, that was really good, but make sure you get the crashes on the one.’ I’m like, ‘Cool.’ (Hums drumming) Afterwards he said, ‘Come into the control room.’ He goes, ‘Tell me where you think the one is.’ He hits play, and I was like (hums drumming).

His engineer dude Atticus [Ross], or the other guy he looks with, they looked at each other like, how cute, that’s not the one. I’m like, ‘It’s not?’ He started showing me where it was, and I couldn’t get it. I’m like, ‘Let’s not use numbers, just tell me where you want the fucking crash.’
