Last month, Josh Freese announced his abrupt departure from Foo Fighters after two years with the band, revealing that they have decided to “go in a different direction with their drummer.”

Despite being canned by Dave Grohl and co., Freese is remaining busy as the drummer of A Perfect Circle. However, now that he has a bit more free time on his hands, it seems he is looking for other creative projects to delve into.

On late Monday night (June 2nd), Freese took to his Instagram stories to share an image of a text message he sent Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, asking him if he can design their next album cover.

“Come on man, let me do the next Pearl Jam album cover!” Freese wrote along with a hilarious photo collage that included an image of Corey Feldman and the P.F. Chang’s logo.

Captioning the text exchange, Freese added: “I’m not giving up. 😂”

According to a 1994 Los Angeles Times article, Freese has a bit of a history with Pearl Jam, having auditioned for the band after Dave Abbruzzese’s firing. Instead of waiting around for the group to decide who they were going to hire as Abbruzzese’s replacement, Freese decided to join the band Slider.

Recalling the audition, Freese told the LA Times in 1994: “It was fun to play with (Pearl Jam). It was the first time I’ve literally jammed. We didn’t play any of their songs. We just rocked for three or four days, improvised the whole time. They made me feel very comfortable.”
