Foo Fighters’ bassist Nate Mendel recently talked about the band’s new drummer, Ilan Rubin. He highlighted Rubin’s exceptional musicianship and seamless fit with the group, according to Rockin’On Magazine.

Mendel has expressed his admiration for Rubin’s ability to understand the band’s musical style while bringing his own attention to detail. He further explained how quickly the drummer has adapted to the group despite their brief time together.

“Ilan really listens to every single note. He plays in the same style we’ve always done, but at the same time, he carefully picks up on the subtle nuances. Because of that, when we play together, it just clicks, and we mesh so smoothly,” Mendel said.

The bassist was surprised to learn that Rubin has been performing in bands since his early teens, especially given their short three-month acquaintance.

“We were just talking the other day, and I found out for the first time that Ilan has been playing in bands since he was about 11-13 years old. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, really? We’ve only known each other for three months!’ (laughs),” Mendel recalled.

Mendel concluded by joking about Rubin’s natural integration into the band. He suggested the drummer’s smooth transition seemed almost too perfect.

“The way he fits in so naturally is almost unnatural. I wonder if he was given something to eat (laughs), or… he’s getting a lot of money behind the scenes (laughs). Anyway, I’m not worried about Ilan at all,” he said.
