The Foo Fighters are making headlines again, and this time, it’s not for a new album or a surprise tour. It’s for something a bit more… dramatic.

Josh Freese has been let go from the band. He had stepped into the Foo Fighters after the tragic loss of Taylor Hawkins, but out of nowhere, he has been relieved of his duties. Freese, who’s been in the game for over 40 years and has played with the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses, and Devo, expressed his shock and disappointment on Instagram.

Now, you’d think that after such a tenure, he’d get a bit more than a vague dismissal. But wait, it gets juicier.

William Goldsmith, the original Foo Fighters drummer, had his own tumultuous exit from the band back in the ’90s. Goldsmith didn’t hold back his thoughts on Freese’s firing. He said:

“Say what? Why for playing everything not only perfectly, but going above and beyond what most are remotely capable of? I apologize but respectfully this makes absolutely no sense to me.”

He also posted: “I don’t see anything wrong with being such a profoundly great musician, a total professional, reliable in every sense of the word from what I can tell, and going above and beyond what most drummers are even capable of. Baffles my mind.”

Josh Freese also posted a photo and said that he was getting Foo Fighters Royalty Check from Saturday Night Live after firing.
