Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain and Kurt’s wife Courtney Love, previously obtained the rights to her late father’s name, likeness and appearance from Love. Over a decade ago, her mother had stepped down as Acting Manager of End of Music LLC, the business in charge of the Nirvana leader’s post-death publicity.
As per a report from addiction/recovery site The Fix, Love effectively agreed to lose control of Cobain’s image once she received a $2.75 million loan in 2010 from her daughter’s trust fund, which was then transferred to End of Music and Love’s lawyers at the time.
Until Love decides to pay back the sum, she forfeited the rights to any profits made through Cobain’s likeness, while Frances Bean currently has final say in business matters involving her father’s image. Meanwhile, Larry Mestel of Primary Wave Music owns the entire administrative rights of Cobain’s music, giving Love zero power to decide how it is used.
Frances Bean Cobain wants Trademark rights to ‘Justice for Kurt’
It has now come to light that a company called ‘Kurt’s Army’ is trying to claim ownership of Justice For Kurt, a conspiracy theory term used by those who falsely think Kurt was killed. The opposer is The End of Music, LLC. You can view details below on why Cobain’s company opposes the trademark claim via documents Alternative Nation has obtained below.
