om Morello, guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and longtime activist, has announced a special concert titled “Defend L.A.” taking place on Monday, June 16 at the Echoplex in Echo Park. The show is a benefit for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and comes in response to a recent uptick in immigration raids throughout Southern California.
The concert will feature performances by B Real of Cypress Hill, politically charged punk collective Pussy Riot, genre-blending artist K.Flay, and local indie band The Neighborhood Kids. Artist and DJ Shepard Fairey will provide a DJ set, and comedian George Lopez will host the evening.
Morello announced the concert via his social media accounts, calling on fans to “raise hell and raise funds” and stating, “Defend LA. Defend humanity.” Tickets are set to go on sale at 2 p.m. PT today, with intentionally low prices to ensure accessibility and encourage donations.
The show also aligns with Morello’s solo acoustic tour, “A Night of Stories and Music,” further amplifying his ongoing blend of activism and performance. With the venue’s intimate setting and a lineup focused on resistance, “Defend L.A.” is expected to deliver a powerful night of music and message.
