Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently shared his reaction to learning that Taylor Swift once covered one of the band’s most beloved songs and it clearly left a lasting impression on him.

During a recent interview with Q101, Armstrong discussed some of the most surprising celebrity Green Day fans, when he suddenly brought up Swift. His bandmate, Mike Dirnt then spoke about Swift covering one of their songs.
He said, as transcribed by Alternative Nation, “Taylor Swift covered one of our songs,” he said.
“I saw a video of her covering ‘Time of Your Life’ at one of her concerts and like… that was so cool.”
Armstrong also recently discussed his relationship with his son, Joey Armstrong, and his son’s music career. When asked about balancing support with allowing his son creative independence, Armstrong noted that he takes a hands-off approach. He maintains a close musical connection with his son.
“You know, he just does his own thing. I mean he’s really adamant about it,” Armstrong said.
“The great thing about it is that we get to talk about music together. I love talking about music when people are in the room because they don’t know what we’re talking about when it comes to chord changes and things like that. It’s almost like we’re speaking a different language, which is really special to me.”
Armstrong then highlighted his son’s passion for music and songwriting. He noted that any influence he may have had stems from his DIY philosophy rather than parental control.
“He loves music. He loves singing. He loves writing songs. If I’ve inspired him to do that, I hope it’s just from a place of DIY. That’s kind of the way he approaches it,” he continued. “I am not a stage parent or a ‘dadager’ like at all. He’s my bud.”
