Howard Stern opened up about his dislike for Manhattan, saying that even though many view it as one of the greatest places in the world with its culture, museums, and parks, he has never enjoyed it. Since childhood, he has hated going there.

Howard Stern Reveals Why He Hates Manhattan

He explained that he doesn’t enjoy culture and prefers less of it. For him, the city feels overcrowded, and he sees people as “bags of germs.” Parking, he added, is another nightmare. Alternative Nation transcribed his remarks.

“The Big Apple is one of the greatest wonders of the world. The culture, the museums, the parks on this little island called Manhattan. And guess what, I don’t want to be there. I’ve hated it since I was a child. There’s all this culture, but I don’t like culture. The less culture, the better. There are too many people. People are like bags of germs. Parking? Your head could spin.”

When his parents used to take him to Manhattan, Stern said he would cry. His biggest worry was needing to use the bathroom while there. His parents told him he could go at the theater, but he refused, saying he couldn’t use public restrooms because he would get nervous and even feel gassy. He remembered his father joking that he should “lift up one cheek and blow it out,” but Stern hated the idea of others smelling him.

He also criticized the social side of Manhattan, saying many treat the city like their personal playground where they can go to bars and hang out with others. To him, that sounds like a nightmare.

Sitting around and listening to other people’s nonsense is something he has no interest in. While he admitted that many people enjoy being social, he insisted it’s not for him and wants no part of it.

“My parents would say, ‘We’re going to Manhattan,’ and I would cry. What if I had to use the bathroom? They’d say, ‘You’ll go at the theater.’ No, I won’t. I can’t pee in front of people. I’d have gas. My father would say, ‘Well, lift up one cheek and blow it out.’ I don’t want people to smell me like a farm animal. You know, people say, ‘Manhattan is my playroom, my living room, I want to drink and go to a bar.’ That sounds like the biggest nightmare. And what? Sit with people and hear their nonsense? Apparently, many people like to be with other people. God bless them. Keep me out of it.”
