On a new episode of Billy Corgan’s podcast “The Magnificent Others,” Jack Osbourne became emotional while reflecting on his father, Ozzy Osbourne’s, reaction to his and Black Sabbath’s final show, “Back to the Beginning.” The massive farewell concert was held in Ozzy’s hometown of Birmingham just weeks before his death last July.
During the conversation, Jack spoke candidly about his father, revealing that the legendary singer wrestled with deep insecurities about his career and his own talent.
“When left to his own devices, that kinda darkness of ‘I am less than, I suck, I’m not worthy’ would really take over,” Jack revealed.
Billy Corgan then chimed in, noting that Ozzy’s longtime photographer, Ross Halfin, had shared a similar sentiment with him following “Back to the Beginning.”
“Ross said to me after the final show in Birmingham [that] every gig that he ever shot your dad – going all the way back to the ’70s – your dad would be like, ‘I was terrible. I’m so embarrassed, I can’t believe these people are cheering for me.’ And he said the last gig was the only time he didn’t say that,” Corgan said.
An emotional Jack went on to share that his father was ecstatic about how the farewell show ultimately came together.
“Oh, he was so happy. It was the craziest thing. I ran into the dressing room, and I was like, ‘You did it!’” Jack recalled, as he broke down in tears. “I’m only crying because of [my father’s] joy. He was so happy… He was just happy. You know, he was doing what he was meant to do.”
