Jack White Mocks Trump Name on Dollars
Jack White has taken aim at President Donald Trump after a US Treasury Department announcement that Trump’s signature will be added to US dollar bills later this year, a move described as a first for a sitting president.
Reacting on social media, White argued the decision was emblematic of unchecked power, and he suggested Trump should go even further by placing his face on the front of the hundred-dollar bill.
White also pointed to the wider political and economic backdrop, writing that TSA agents were going without paychecks and “selling plasma to pay rent” while Trump “takes the day off,” and he criticised what he called surging gas prices amid a Middle East crisis he blamed on the President.
In the same post, White floated a provocative idea about protesting the signature on banknotes, then acknowledged that defacing US currency is illegal while questioning whether rules are applied evenly. The musician has previously made headlines for political commentary, including when he called out a President-related Obama clip he described as racist.
White’s remarks add another chapter to his long-running public criticism of Trump, and they arrive as musicians continue to use their platforms to respond to real-time political developments that intersect with everyday life.
