Jack White drops surprise new album, but in the most Jack White way possible.

On Friday, the former White Stripes frontman announced the surprise release of a new solo album, but as of right now it is in the hands of only a few lucky fans.

Vinyl copies of the new mystery album were secretly slipped into customers’ bags at White’s Third Man Records shops in Nashville, Detroit, and London. It is also being reported that a few members of Third Man Records’ subscription service have received unexpected copies in the mail.

The sleeve of the LP has no information on it except for the words “No Name” on the label. Third Man Records later posted a photo of the album on their Instagram stories accompanied by the phrase “Rip It”, implying that fans are more than welcome to share the tracks online.

According to Rolling Stone, White’s publicist was “as surprised as everyone else” about the release.
After word got out about the secret new record, Detroit radio station WDET 101.9FM – which is across the street from Third Man Records’ Detroit location – played the album in full, live on air. The broadcast has since been uploaded to YouTube. “No Name” has also been ripped and shared on White’s official Reddit page.

Those few lucky fans who received copies of the record are reporting that aside from “No Name” written on the label, Side A is etched with the words “Heaven and Hell”, while Side B says “Black and Blue”.

It is not yet clear if the album will receive an official physical release.
