Hollywood Vampires Move to Toss Depp Concert Lawsuit
Johnny Depp’s supergroup Hollywood Vampires is facing a new legal fight after a European concert date was scrapped, with the band now pushing back in a Texas federal court case. The dispute centres on a cancelled show in Bratislava, Slovakia, and money the promoter says was paid in advance.
TMZ reported that a Bratislava concert promoter is suing Hollywood Vampires over a July 2023 date, alleging the group—featuring Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry—was paid roughly $277,000 up front, did not perform, and never returned the money.
In newly filed legal documents, the band is seeking to have the case dismissed, arguing the promoter failed to establish that the Texas court has personal jurisdiction over the defendants. The promoter claims the group pulled out on the day of the concert, citing concerns that the venue was inadequate.
The promoter also alleges the cancellation was actually tied to Depp being hospitalised for an undisclosed medical issue rather than venue problems. The filing further claims the promoter sought repayment but did not receive a response, and says the incident caused financial losses and reputational damage in the live-music business.
The case adds to the ongoing spotlight surrounding Depp’s public life and career, following previous controversies including his comments about the #MeToo movement. A court decision on whether the lawsuit can proceed in Texas is expected as the parties continue to argue jurisdiction and liability.
