Wherever Kid Rock goes, controversy follows him like a lightning rod. This is because he can lead to a lot of outrage thanks to his political views and opinions on other subject matters.
Kid Rock mocks face mask wearers during Fox News interview
During an interview with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Kid Rock appeared to mock people who wear face masks. When Watters mentioned his family’s Scooby-Doo Halloween costumes, Kid Rock put on a mask, removed it, and asked, “Guess what I’m going to be?” Watters replied, “Fauci?” The singer then put the mask back on, took it off again, and said, “A R-word.”
It was as clear as day that Kid Rock targeted those who wear masks to protect against illnesses like COVID-19, flu, and RSV. Kid Rock has long criticized mask mandates.
In January 2022, Kid Rock doubled down on his anti-mask and anti-vaccine views when he threatened to cancel any concert stops that enforced COVID-19 safety mandates.
In a video posted to his social media, he warned fans that if any venue on his “Bad Reputation Tour” required masks or proof of vaccination, he would simply refuse to perform. “You’ll be getting your money back because I won’t be showing up either,” he said, making it clear that he would not sing songs like “Don’t Tell Me How to Live” or “We the People” in front of masked fans.
He admitted that he purposely removed several cities from his tour schedule, including Buffalo, New York, and Toronto, Canada, because of local COVID-19 rules. “It’s actually kind of unfortunate,” he added, explaining that he didn’t want to “deal with that stuff” and assumed fans felt the same way.
“It’s actually kind of unfortunate,” he continued. “We actually scratched Buffalo, New York off the list because of that, and Toronto, Canada, and several other cities we were looking at, cause, ya know, I’m not one way or the other, but I don’t want to deal with that s— either and I know that you don’t.”
That’s not all, either. In his song We the People from 2022, Kid Rock uses the lyric “Wear your mask, take your pills / Now a whole generation’s mentally ill,” criticizing masks and public-health restrictions.
Interestingly enough, Kid Rock wasn’t always anti-mask. Back in April 2020, during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, he actually encouraged fans to wear masks and stay safe.
He posted a photo of himself wearing a homemade face mask with the caption: “Stay home. Stay safe. And if you must go out, wear a mask.” So, a lot of people wonder what really made him change his view like this in the end.
