Since the formation of the band, the amount of royalties Led Zeppelin members receive from album sales has been largely kept secret. Now, we may have a bit of an insight into at least part of what frontman Robert Plant receives in a year.
According to a new report published by two of his music publishing companies in the UK, Plant received £7 million in dividend payments in the financial year ending March 31, 2024.
The dividend payments were shown in annual accounts filed by Sons of Einion and Trolcharm (two businesses Plant uses to receive income from album sales).
The public accounts published by both companies on December 17 show that Plant received £4 million from Sons Of Einion and £3 million from Trolcharm.
While Plant is not listed directly as the recipient of the money, both companies state that the dividend payments were “paid to the director” – which Plant is alongside his children Logan Plant, Jordan Plant (aka Jesse Lee), and Carmen Jones.
These reports provide a rare look at the amount of royalties Plant receives from Led Zeppelin album sales, as well as from his solo career.
The band has chosen to closely guard their royalty figures, with them being so secretive about the topic that 1,100 pages of deposition transcripts produced ahead of the 2016 “Stairway to Heaven” copyright trial are marked by the band’s lawyers as “confidential” or “highly confidential.”
It was revealed during the trial, though, that Sons of Einion is a “pass-through entity” used by Plant to receive royalties from 87 Led Zeppelin songs. It was shown that Plant received £2.1 million in royalty payments through Sons of Einion between May 2012 and March 2013.
