On Friday night (Jan. 30st), Foo Fighters and Taylor Momsen teamed up for a performance honoring Mariah Carey at the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year gala.

Together, they covered two songs from Carey’s secret ‘90s alt-rock band Chick: “Hermit” and “Love Is A Scam.” In clips from the performance, Carey can be seen singing along from the audience, grinning ear to ear.

Both songs were featured on Carey’s long lost grunge album “Someone’s Ugly Daughter,” which she recorded in the mid-90s with her friend Clarissa Dane under the band name Chick.

At the time, Carey’s label refused to release the version of the album featuring her on lead vocals. So, in 1995, Chick quietly put out a version of the record featuring Dane singing lead while Carey provided backing vocals under the pseudonym D. Sue.

The version with Carey on lead still has yet to be officially released.

This past October, however, Carey finally shared the previously unheard original recordings of “Hermit” and “Love Is a Scam” during an interview with SZA for Apple Music. A few days later, she debuted a snippet of “Prom Queen” on “The Tonight Show.”

While speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Carey explained that she recorded “Somebody’s Ugly Daughter” during the sessions for her album “Daydream.”

“I was just rebelling, because I was working on ‘Daydream,’ and I was doing ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘Fantasy,’ and those kinds of songs. I loved doing that, but at the end of the night, when the band was still there, I’d say, can you play, like [sings grungy guitar riff],” she said.

While the album’s original release with Dane on lead vocals bombed, Carey is hoping to rerelease the original version of the record.

“I always regretted not putting it out, but they kind of stopped me at that point,” Carey said. “It was Sony at the time. We love Sony now, but back then…a little controlling, a little controlling.”
