Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has reacted to Sunny Garcia’s suicide attempt in a new Instagram post. You can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

“Hey Sunny the surfing world still needs you HERE ,
you are an inspiration to surfers everywhere and you still have a lot of waves to catch , PLEASE hang in there bro @sunnygarcia #sunnygarcia #surfforlife 🤘🏄🏼.”

TMZ reports that The World Surf League has confirmed Garcia was hospitalized after a suicide attempt.

“In the past, Garcia has talked publicly about his struggles with depression and even asked fans for advice on treatment.”

“Garcia is one of the most beloved people in pro surfing. He grew up in Hawaii — and became close friends with fellow surf stars like Kelly Slater and Jamie O’Brien.

He’s an absolute STUD in the water — winning the World Surf League’s world championship in 2000. He was inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

Garcia also became the 2nd pro surfer in history to win more than $1 million in prize money — which is a HUGE accomplishment.”

Garcia’s friend and pro surfer Kelly Slater took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to offer his best wishes. “Sunny…I love you, brother. I just can’t even fathom you not here,” Slater posted on his Instagram account. “We’ve got so much more living to do before we are done.”

CNN reports, “Garcia, a native of Oahu, Hawaii, learned to surf at 5 years old, turned professional at 16 and went on to win six Triple Crown championships as well as the WSL’s world championship in 2000, according to the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame. In recognition of his career achievements, Garcia was inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame and the Surfing Walk of Fame.
