Morrissey’s concert in Dallas was forced to cut short on Saturday as overzealous fans invaded the stage and attempted to embrace the singer.
Morrissey ends concert
A video from the Music Hall at Fair Park concert shows that during the encore performance of “First of the Gang to Die,” fans bombarded the stage, trying to get close to the singer, an occurrence that is reportedly common at Morrissey’s shows.
However, after a couple of fans managed to hug and shake hands with him, the stage was raided by more fans, leaving security scrambling to clear the stage as Morrissey was jostled between the admirers and personnel.
A security guard was apparently injured during the chaos. The guard seemingly injured his leg while attempting to remove the fan. He was seen hopping off the stage and clearly unable to put weight on one of his feet.
A song into the encore, Morrissey was then eventually ushered off the stage. The crowd then booed the abrupt end to the concert, which concluded a song or two before schedule according to Morrissey’s recent setlists.
Following the incident, George Allen, the host of a Morrissey podcast, told Manchester Evening News: “Stage invasions are very common at Morrissey gigs but this one looked particularly messy. It’s not clear if it was Morrissey’s choice to leave the stage or if he was directed by the crew but the fans did seem to go a bit far.”
He added: “Getting on stage for a handshake and a hug is fine but considering one of the crew was injured this felt like too much. Some fans have described it as disrespectful.”
The singer is yet to comment on the chaotic incident that took place on Saturday.
