As 2024 comes to an end, it’s a time for many people to reflect upon the past year and all that it brought with it. For Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, it seems 2024 was not a year he’s all too happy to look back on.
In a recent post to Twitter/X, Sixx shared his thoughts on the past year, and it seems he’s ready for it to be over as soon as possible.
“Looking forward to saying goodbye to 2024. It’s been the year of being stabbed in the back multiple times but the future is beyond bright for me and my family,” he wrote.
Shortly after Sixx tweeted the above message, speculation began to swirl about who exactly he was referring to when he wrote about being “stabbed in the back.” Other fans, however, found the comments ironic considering what had happened with Mötley Crüe’s former member Mick Mars.
When Mars initially stopped touring with the band in 2022, he cited health issues as the main reason. Mars, however, later filed a lawsuit against Mötley Crüe, claiming he was forced out of the band. This ultimately confirmed rumors that his exit was a result of problems between him and the other members.
“You kind of know about stabbing folks in the back eh?… considering what ya did to Mick… define irony,” one user wrote in reply to Sixx’s tweet.
“Now you know how Mick feels. Hope it gets better for everyone,” another added.
A third fan chimed in, saying: “No one gonna bring up the absolute Brute vs Ceasar backstabbing that they pulled on Mick huh?”
Sixx later said in a conversation with Guitar World in October of 2024 that they “were forced” to fire him.
“Guy’s gotta choose: you want to break up? Do you want to f*ck over [concert promoter] Live Nation? You want to screw [tourmates] Def Leppard? All those tickets, all that planning that we’d done because one of your band members is too ill to perform live?” he said. “…If one of your guys can’t play anymore, they bring in another guy.”
