Neil Peart’s Widow Backs Rush Tour Return
Carrie Nuttall-Peart has spoken publicly about Rush returning to the road with drummer Ms. Anika Nilles, offering her view on how late drummer Neil Peart would have responded to the band moving forward. Her comments arrive as Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson prepare for a 2026 tour that marks the group’s first major run since Peart’s death and Rush’s final performances in 2015.
New York Times reported that Nuttall-Peart said Peart had been ready to retire while his bandmates were not, suggesting he would have questioned the idea at first but ultimately supported Lee and Lifeson continuing.
Nuttall-Peart also reflected on Peart’s complicated relationship with fame, saying he did not enjoy being in the public eye and that the band’s “Limelight” felt like a personal theme for him. She added that Peart likely would have responded with a loving scepticism — “Why?” or “You guys are just nuts” — while still backing his longtime collaborators.
She is also set to contribute an essay to the official tour programme, a move seen as an additional endorsement of the reunion’s approach. The tour is scheduled to open June 7 at the Forum in Los Angeles, a venue tied closely to Rush’s last show with Peart, and the band has indicated it intends to honour him throughout the run with song choices and visual tributes. Nilles’ role in the lineup has drawn attention in recent months, including Alternative Nation’s earlier report that Anika Nilles publicly backed Johnny Depp.
Rush’s return is being framed by those closest to the band as a balance between respecting Peart’s legacy and meeting ongoing fan demand, with Nuttall-Peart’s comments offering rare personal context about what the decision might have meant to him.
