Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx recently addressed lingering fan questions about guitarist Mick Mars’ exit from the band and the legal fight that followed, responding directly during a recent Q&A exchange online. Sixx’s comments come as the split between Mars and his former bandmates continues to draw scrutiny from fans who have argued over what actually happened behind the scenes.
In the Q&A, Sixx responded after a fan asked him, “How could you do that to Mick?” Sixx said, “People seem to forget that he sued us and obviously lost the lawsuit because it wasn’t factual,” adding that Mars was “taken advantage of by dirty lawyers” and that the situation has left fans “still confused.”
People seem to forget that he sued us and obviously lost the lawsuit because it wasn’t factual. Mick was taken advantage of by dirty lawyers and hurt everybody and the fans are still confused. Heartbreaking for us.

The dispute traces back to October 2022, when Mars announced he would retire from touring as his health issues worsened. The guitarist, who has long lived with ankylosing spondylitis, later filed a lawsuit in 2023 alleging financial and performance-related grievances involving the band and its business operations.
Sixx’s latest remarks are the most pointed public explanation he has offered in response to fan backlash, and they also follow his history of engaging directly with online criticism, including in a previous exchange where he pushed back on a Vince Neil-related jab.
While the legal fight has produced competing narratives, Sixx framed it as a case that harmed everyone involved, including the band’s audience. For Mötley Crüe, the episode remains a major aftershock of Mars’ decision to step away from touring, with public statements continuing to shape how fans interpret the band’s post-Mars era.
