Nikki Sixx Calls Mick Mars Tattoo ‘Sad Reminder’

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has publicly addressed whether he still carries a tattoo connected to former bandmate Mick Mars, framing it as a lingering symbol of the acrimonious split that has followed Mars’ exit from the group’s touring lineup.

Responding to a fan question online, Sixx said he still has the tattoo but described it as “a sad reminder” tied to what he characterised as betrayal.

The remark is the latest flashpoint in a dispute that has played out in interviews and court filings since Mars stepped back in 2022. Mars announced he would retire from touring after battling ankylosing spondylitis, a degenerative condition that affects the spine, while the band moved forward with guitarist John 5 handling live duties.

The conflict escalated when Mars filed a lawsuit alleging his profit share was being reduced and disputing the circumstances of his departure; in one related development, Mars objected to having to pay the band in connection with the legal fight.

Sixx’s comment signals that the personal fractures remain unresolved, even as Mötley Crüe continues its touring commitments with a revised lineup and ongoing scrutiny surrounding the band’s business arrangements and live setup.
