Nikki Sixx Responds To Cancer Rumor

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx recently pushed back after a false online headline claimed he had been diagnosed with advanced-stage 4 cancer. The rumour spread after a fan attached the fabricated claim to one of his posts, prompting Sixx to respond publicly and stress the personal toll of misinformation.

In his reply, Sixx addressed how the hoax lands at home, writing: “Ever wonder how BS like this makes my kids feel?”

The exchange began with Sixx sharing an unrelated observation about social media habits and the promotion of cosmetic surgery, saying he doesn’t spend much time scrolling online beyond “news and photography,” but has recently noticed people turning very personal procedures into content and advertising. A follower then replied to that post with the fake cancer headline and a well-wishing message, which is when Sixx issued his clarification.

The incident arrives amid ongoing discussion about how quickly health-related misinformation can snowball on social platforms, particularly when a claim looks like a real headline.

In recent years, Sixx has remained highly visible beyond Mötley Crüe through his work as a songwriter, photographer and broadcaster, and he has previously discussed major personal struggles in public, including addiction. As background, Alternative Nation has also covered internal band tensions, including when Sixx fired back at a Vince Neil insult during a separate flare-up.

For Sixx, the latest episode underscored a point he has made repeatedly: viral rumours may be brushed off by some fans, but they can create immediate anxiety for family members who see them shared at scale. His message was aimed as much at the people spreading the claim as at those who mistakenly believed it.
