Former Blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge recently called Oasis’ Liam Gallagher ‘the most punk rock dude ever.’ Gallagher mocked DeLonge on Twitter for the statement, “The most Punk Rock Dude Ever Ha ha you’ve seen fuck all yet mate as you were LG x.”

In an interview for his upcoming Ernie Ball TV special, DeLonge remembered meeting Joe Strummer: “I asked him, ‘What was it like being in The Clash?’

“He goes, ‘You know, we used to go around saying: Fuck you, we’re The Clash, – but now that I think about it, the Talking Heads were pretty fucking cool. Don’t close your mind.’

“I was like, ‘Wow, the King of Punk is telling me: Open your mind up.'”

Two days later DeLonge met Oasis’ Liam Gallagher backstage at a radio show in Detroit. Gallagher told DeLonge that Blink-182 were the ‘best’ band he’d seen in America.

DeLonge adds: “I asked, ‘You like us?’ and Liam said, ‘I didn’t say that, I said, ‘You’re the best I’ve seen in America,’ and he slammed the door. That was the most punk rock dude I’ve ever met in my life.

“I became the biggest Oasis fan after that, and from that day forward I stopped listening to punk rock music and started listening to everything. From meeting Strummer and having that experience with the Oasis dudes, the band exploded and I never looked back. I had my graduation.”
