Former Red Hot Chili Peppers producer Michael Beinhorn discussed the band’s sad heroin use while recording ‘Uplift Mofo Party Plan.’ Beinhorn told Produce Like A Pro, as transcribed by Alternative Nation:
“And it also exemplified all the worst aspects of Los Angeles, too. Like the dirt, the sordidness, the nastiness, the drug problems. And heroin was rampant at that point as I discovered when I started working with them. But, it was such a rich tapestry and such a great story to tell.
It’s like, come on, with raw material like that, how can you screw it up? Like seriously. If you really want to get beyond the songs and just present something that’s go personality, it’s like there you go. But it was a really hard album to make because of the drug problems.”
On Record Store Day over the weekend, Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and drummer Chad Smith released a vinyl single featuring the T. Rex covers in “Jeepster” and “Monolith”. The Chili Peppers members also staged a special Record Store Day performance at Fingerprints Music in Long Beach, California with former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.
