Ozzy Osbourne’s sisters, Jean Powell and Gillian Hemming, have spoken out following his death, saying they were shocked by the loss, especially since he was still making plans to see them shortly before he passed.
In an interview with The Mirror, the sisters, who still call him by his birth name “John,” said they knew Ozzy’s health was fragile, but his sudden passing still came as a surprise. They last saw him at his farewell show in Birmingham, England. Although they didn’t get a chance to talk much due to the busy nature of the event, they had arranged to see him again soon.
Jean shared that in Ozzy’s final text to her, he said he planned to return to Birmingham. She said, “We were hoping to see him this week.”
Jean and Gillian explained that no matter how famous Ozzy became, he was always just their brother. They said the tributes and love pouring in from around the world have amazed them. Ozzy himself was touched by the support. He texted his sisters that he couldn’t believe how many people were walking down their old street in Birmingham to see him perform one last time.
The sisters said they are heartbroken but comforted by the fact that Ozzy passed away in England, his home.
Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76, surrounded by loved ones. The family announced his passing in a heartfelt statement on Tuesday. Since then, tributes from stars like Lady Gaga, Elton John, Marilyn Manson, Cyndi Lauper, John Stamos, Jack White, Travis Barker, and Ronnie Wood have flooded social media, honoring the legendary musician.
