Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard’s Brad bandmate, and Seattle music legend, Shawn Smith died on Friday, April 5th, eerily the same day that Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley died. It’s been a tough couple of years for Gossard, losing two singers with the deaths of Chris Cornell and Shawn Smith, decades after losing Andrew Wood.

Former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain tweeted about the iconic Seattle singer, “Shawn Smith…one of the great. R.I.P.”

Pearl Jam and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron posted a heart emoji.

Former Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age singer Mark Lanegan tweeted, “Seattle loses another great too soon. RIP Shawn Smith.”

Sub Pop co-founder Bruce Pavitt tweeted, “You sang like an angel. RIP Shawn Smith. #Seattle #shawnsmith #pigeonhed.”

Shawn Smith’s son Dove wrote on Facebook, “Hello everyone this is Shawn’s son dove and we wanted to let everyone know that my dad Shawn Smith has passed away it is so sad for everybody I miss him so much and I don’t even know how to express how much I love him he is an amazing dad and gave me all the love he has to offer and I think he’d want all of you to know he’s leaving his love for all of us, me and my mom both know how grateful he is for all of you. Thank you everyone and we’ll leave you with one of many beautiful Shawn Smith lyrics.

‘Lover don’t walk away
without kissing my cheek,
Lover don’t walk away
Without saying I love you
Lover don’t pretend
That you are weak
Lover I know
Your’e stronger than me.'”

Smith’s last Facebook post on March 31st said, “RIP Nipsey Hussle🙁❤️”
