Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament was recent interview on KEXP, and he indicated that fans should not expect a new album to come out to coincide with the band’s upcoming tour dates. Alternative Nation transcribed his comments.

“I wish I had an answer. We’ve written a ton, and it’s just going to be a matter of us sorting through that stuff. Fortunately and unfortunately, we have a bunch of shows coming up, so it isn’t going to happen anytime soon.”

“We’ve been writing a ton. There’s a ton of song forms out there.”

He said earlier in the interview that the band would be touring this summer, but hinted at more activity later in 2018, which could mean the band could finally finish the new album as the year comes to a close.

“We could possibly be busy later in the year too.”

He also discussed Pearl Jam’s special connection with their fans.

“I think so much that is how amazing Eddie is at connecting to the audience, just through his storytelling, and how he interacts with everybody. I don’t know if I help out that much, because I’m sort of an internal guy, especially at the beginning of the show.

I’m really just trying to keep it all together. When I see musicians who are that way, I connect with them too, because if they’re digging deep to try to get something out, as a musician I really respond to it. But a lot of our connection to the crowd is really just Ed.”
