Renowned drummer Matt Cameron, known for his contributions to bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, is set to collaborate with iconic rock band The Melvins for an exciting new EP slated for release on the Black Friday edition of Record Store Day 2023. Cameron expressed his deep admiration for The Melvins and the immense influence they’ve had on his musical journey, dating back to the mid-80s when he first witnessed their live performance in Seattle.

Cameron’s affinity for The Melvins’ experimental sound and their role in shaping Seattle’s burgeoning underground rock scene during the 80s has been a driving force in his artistic development. This deep-rooted connection prompted him to reestablish contact with The Melvins in 2019, following their performance at the Chris Cornell tribute concert in Los Angeles.

As stated by Pearl Jam Online: After the event, Cameron approached Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, Steven McDonald, and Toshi Kasai—core members of The Melvins—expressing his desire to collaborate and record some solo material he had been working on. Teaming up with Seattle-based musician and producer Nate Yaccino, along with Meagan GrandallI, the collaborative effort took shape, resulting in a project that Cameron thoroughly enjoyed and was proud to be a part of.

Matt stated: “I have been a massive Melvins fan since I first saw them play live in Seattle around 1985. They were a huge influence on me as a musician and big part of our local Seattle burgeoning underground rock music scene in the 80s. I reconnected with the Melvins in 2019 when they performed at the Chris Cornell tribute concert in Los Angeles. After the show, I emailed Buzz (Osborne) and asked if he, Dale (Crover), Steven (McDonald) and Toshi (Kasai) could help me record some solo material I had kicking around.”

In a gesture of appreciation and homage to The Melvins’ groundbreaking record ‘Gluey Porch Treatments,’ Cameron sought and obtained permission to reimagine the artwork for this upcoming EP. The collaboration is a true fusion of musical minds and a testament to the enduring influence and connectivity within the music community.

He closed: “I also collaborated with Seattle musician/producer Nate Yaccino and Meagan GrandallI on this release. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, completely dug the results and decided to pay homage to the Melvins by reimagining the artwork (with their permission) from their groundbreaking record Gluey Porch Treatments. Enjoy.”

Music enthusiasts can anticipate the release of this EP, a harmonious blend of creative expression, mutual respect, and a celebration of the profound impact of musical inspiration. Matt Cameron’s collaboration with The Melvins showcases the unifying power of music and the artistic evolution that continues to shape the music industry. Stay tuned for the Black Friday release and the musical journey that awaits.
