Pearl Jam reacted to the tragic murder of George Floyd and others leading to a widespread national discussion on racism in a series of tweets recently.

“Pearl Jam was started with a love for music and social justice. Our organization has been reflecting on where unconscious racism is still showing up in our own lives and how we can do better.”

“While we continue to dig in, we do not want to contribute to white voices overtaking the narrative that the Black community is sharing. It is the responsibility of each of us to listen and educate ourselves on how to be better humans sharing this planet.”

They tweeted a couple of days prior, “We planned to release a new version of the Choices shirt today as part of Gun Violence Awareness Week to fundraise for frontline organizations working to prevent gun violence.”

“The events of this past week have underscored the importance of this issue and remind us that Black Americans are ten times more likely than white Americans to die by gun homicide.”

“We continue to stand with communities of color and all of those taking actions for racial justice across America.”

Pearl Jam were set to tour this year, but postponed dates due to the COVID-19 crisis. The band released their new album Gigaton a few months ago.
