Jane’s Addiction guitar tech Dan Cleary recently revealed in a video the isolated track taken from Perry Farrell’s mic.
A shocking altercation between Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro. The incident saw Farrell appearing to purposely tackle Navarro on stage, leading to a heated confrontation that left both the audience and band members shocked. Video clips captured by fans depicted that Farrell, in the middle of his meltdown, attempted to use his microphone as a weapon against his bandmates.
The tension between Farrell and Navarro reportedly escalated after Farrell got in Navarro’s face and began hurling insults at him. A confused Navarro could be seen asking what was going on, but before anyone could intervene, Farrell lunged at him. The situation escalated as Farrell started throwing punches, though it’s unclear if any landed on Navarro.
Jane’s Addiction guitar tech says the scuffle spilled to backstage
According to Dan Cleary, the band’s guitar and bass tech for the past 17 years, the fight continued backstage with a second punch from Farrell that actually connected with Navarro’s face.
On Cleary’s podcast, Rare Form Radio, he had an in-depth conversation with Dave Navarro’s best friend Todd Newman in which the two of them went into the details of what happened in the now infamous incident, and Cleary detailed the events as they continued backstage.
In the podcast, Newman and Cleary try their best to show some sympathy to Farrell despite clearly being on the side of the other members of the band.
Perry Farrell has also apologized to Dave Navarro after their battle onstage. Farrell told his Jane’s Addiction bandmates he is sorry in a new Instagram post, writing:
“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family, and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in unexcusable behavior, and I take full responsibility for how I chose to handle the situation.”
The band announced they were calling off the rest of the tour and said they were going on a hiatus.
