Rage Against The Machine Icon Reacts To Ozzy Osbourne Tragedy

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello discussed the death of Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist Randy Rhoads in a new Instagram post.

“37 years ago today #RandyRhoads passed away in a plane crash at the age of 25. The small body of work he left behind is stunning in it’s innovation, passion, technique, melodic composition, and kick ass rocking-ness. The combination of badass riffs, the JAMMING solos, and classical music underpinnings are peerless. His poster was on my wall when I was practicing 8 hours a day because he was a MUSICIAN first, and rock star second. On days off on tour he would take classical guitar lessons, always learning and growing, exhibiting both confidence and humility. This past week I taught my 7 year old ‘Crazy Train’ on guitar and we’ve been jamming it daily keeping Randy’s music alive and rocking in the next generation.”

Ozzy Osbourne said about the death in 1982, “At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 1982, I was awoken from my sleep by a loud explosion. I immediately thought that we’d hit a vehicle on the road. I got out of the bed, screaming to my fiancée, Sharon, ‘Get off the bus.’ Meanwhile, she was screaming to everyone else to get off the bus.

After getting out of the bus, I saw that a plane had crashed. I didn’t know who was on the plane at the time. When we realized that our people were on the plane, I found it very difficult to get assistance from anyone to help. In fact, it took almost a half-hour before anyone arrived. One small fire engine arrived, which appeared to squirt three gallons of water over the inferno. We asked for further assistance, such as telephones, and didn’t receive any further help. In the end, we finally found a telephone and Sharon phoned her father.”
